On Saturday 05 August 2017, Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Ms Stella Ndabeni Abrahams in partnership with Mbashe Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Samkelo Janda, reached out to child headed households, elderly and disabled citizens. They conducted a community outreach programme at Colosa Village.

The Deputy Minister and the honourable Mayor visited two (2) households; Noweyitala Msweli who lives with her four grandchildren, sustained by old age grant and a child headed family of two twins, Esihle and Esona. These families were given cement so that their dilapidated structures could be repaired, groceries and television sets.

Furthermore, eight families were identified and were provided with paint to refurbish their houses, identified school children were provided with school uniform, sanitary towels, and general clothing and rugby kits.

This programme was part of the Nelson Mandela International Day initiatives. Celebrated annually on July 18, Mandela Day is a clarion call to action for people to recognise their ability to have a positive effect on others around them. The day inspires people to embrace the values that the late former president shared, and ultimately seeks to empower communities everywhere to “Take Action; Inspire Change; and Make Every Day a Mandela Day.”
